WWII Paratrooper Wing and Parachute plaque in aluminum!
This very hard-to-find plaque was made in the 1970s by PM Baldwin of Plainsfield NJ; the maker's name is engraved on the back. The plaque has two bolt studs, washers and nuts on the rear for attaching. It measures 5" (12.7 cm) high and 9-1/4"" (23.5 cm) wide.
The plaque design is on line at many US Army Museums through out the country. The wings suggest flight, and together with the parachute, symbolize individual skills and qualifications in airborne units. At the time authorization was announced, personnel had to have been assigned or attached to an airborne unit or to the Airborne Department of the Infantry School and have satisfactorily completed a course of instruction.
